Keeping yourself Occupied After the Horrifying Discovery of the Affair

Surviving Infidelity Series: Keeping yourself Occupied After the Horrifying Discovery of the Affair

Learn how two people coped with the devastation of infidelity by staying occupied from the time of discovery through their journey of recovery.

My supervisor made me come to work and not miss any time when I called into work and told her what had happened to me. It may seem harsh but it was the kindest thing she could have ever done for me. Even though when something like this first happens, it seems impossible to eat, sleep and even get out of bed sometimes, the best thing you can do is keep yourself busy. This is the best advice that I can give. Do anything and everything (Constructive only!) that you can think of to keep your mind off of the infidelity. Do not sit by yourself and feel sorry for yourself. Get up and go out and see family and/or friends, even if it is the last thing you feel like doing. This is a time when you need to focus on yourself more than anything and take care of yourself as well as you possibly can. I admit, I was suicidal and depressed after I found out what my husband had done to me and I didn’t think I was going to be able to make it through this crisis. I will spare you the horrible details but as it turns out, he is not who I thought he was. Sadly, it turns out I never really knew my husband at all and it did not work out but something good did come out of this. I am stronger, wiser and I know myself now better than I ever have. It is possible to pick yourself up and enjoy life again after an affair, even if your marriage comes to an end.
